[ Emerald Park is pretty vast, therefore making it the perfect place to train in. Rukia isn't one to want to get rusty, and even if there's no immediate threat here, she wants to make sure she's ready in case one does show up. And if she were to go back home being weaker, that'd be humiliating. She's not practicing with her sword just yet, and she doesn't plan on practicing kido so as to not damage the greenery around her or jeopardize anyone's safety. She can, however, practice her swings, but first: sword polishing.
Rukia can be found sitting underneath one of the trees, wiping her sword with a cloth. It's quite a beautiful sword and looks like it was birthed from snow and ice, if Keith wants to take a closer look at it. ]
[ Did someone say sword?? All jokes aside, Keith is still trying to get a good feel of the city. If this is meant to be a more permanent state of being, then he intends on spending all of his free time figuring out what the world has to offer.
Emerald Park isn't too far from where he's chosen to live and he passes by it more or less every day. The girl with the katana is new though, and Keith can't help stopping to admire the unusual sword. ]
Is that really made of steel?
[ It looks more like it was carved out of a glacier. With the number of people arund with ice powers, he supposes that wouldn't be so far out of the realm of question. ]
[ Rukia lifts her head upon hearing his question. It's certainly not the first time anyone's asked about her zanpakuto, but it's one of the only times she's been asked about what it's made of. She never thought she'd have to give a human the answer to this question, and, well, she doesn't think she's going to be entirely honest about it. ]
...Ah, something like that.
[ It's made out of souls or something Keith, how would you feel about knowing that -- anyway. She can see why he asked, but that's the answer she's settling on. ]
Combat, primarily, even if it may not appear to be so -- and weapon forging is a bit more complicated where I come from.
[ Though it's capable of doing something a little ceremony-like, and her answer isn't wrong, either. At this point, she's not comfortable disclosing her occupation, so she's going to continue to be dodgy. Sorry, Keith. ]
And yours? I'd like to see it, if you have it on you.
[ But he's not trying to be difficult here, so he'll reach behind him to pull out his Marmora knife, which is... you know Not a sword yet because he hasn't chosen to activate it. ]
[ She says this with a perfectly leveled smile on her face. She'll tell him eventually -- it's mostly just the awkwardness about being a shinigami coupled with being unsure of how he'd take the information that's keeping her from saying anything. Even so, she looks at his knife and blinks a little. ]
Hm. I don't mean to be rude, but this looks more like a knife than a sword. Does it transform?
[ Because she knows a thing or two about transforming weapons, so! ]
hobbies/interests? I don't know. I used to be a spy and the pilot of a robot lion. Had to live on a space whale for the last two years. Being back in a city is a little overwhelming.
sync goals? I'm just looking for a decent sparring partner and someone who knows what they're doing with magic.
heh. i hope so. we've been through a lot together. but he hasn't really given me much of an idea of what he'll pick for his name yet. he looks like he could be a "shadow" or "fang" but i don't wanna assume anything. you know? i'll respect his choice whenever he's ready to make one. it's a pretty big decision and all.
[ Or well. He would, but the situation's pretty complicated right now, isn't it. ]
i've never thought about it that way before when you're inside the lion, i guess it's like any other space craft. you don't really think about what it looks like from the outside.
[ I mean, hell. Do astronauts ever get distracted by how phallic space rockets are??? ]
guess it's kinda distracting when the lions talk to you but usually it's because they're trying to help but i imagine having to sing and fight at the same time makes any kind of surprise attack pretty difficult to pull off
[ OKay, so the mysteriousness is 100% intentional then. Got it. Keith's not exactly going to begrudge anyone for keeping some matters private, but it does make him a lil more guarded about this Rukia person. Who... he guesses is from Japan, then?? Some mystery Japan with mystery sword forging techniques.
Why is the multiverse like this. ]
Just Keith is fine. [ Because guess who doesn't really understand the implications of dropping honorifics? This guy right here. ] It's nice to meet you, Rukia.
And it does, yeah. [ Which he demonstrates for her. The knife emits a brief white glow then turns into a longer blade. For now, he turns the handle of it in his hands to keep the actual blade pointed at the ground. ] Does yours transform as well?
[Fortunately for Keith, Alteans are all about all of that weird pseudoscience.]
Are you implying that you are from my future? A hypothetical one, anyway. Or that we have already, but it is a different me, so that's why I don't remember.
If it wasn't for the large gem growing on my back, I might be disinclined to believe you but I think there are a lot of unexplained things happening here.
i don't know. that's why i don't think you should worry too much about trying to figure it out.
[ Though if he knows anything about Allura, it's that she absolutely won't take that to heart, huh. ]
but if it helps we can put all of that aside and start over
[ By which he means, he'll do his best not to be yelling internally every time she makes some reference to people and places that have been long gone. ]
On the one hand, the temptation is there to say something crude and horrifying about his situation to cut off the line of questioning. On the other hand, he really wants storytime. Hm.
...He decides to split the difference and go for something vague that should still be interesting.]
well, before i wound up here, my friends were chasing a serial killer in this town that was tearing itself apart with riots? low-grade action movie shit at best definitely not as cool as spaceship lion robots
Alright, Keith. [ She'll do her best to remember to drop the '-san' with him! But enough about formalities, there's a transformation going on. The knife turns into a longer blade, and Rukia looks at it with slightly widened eyes. ]
Ah. It has such an interesting shape to it -- how did you get it to transform?
[ As for his question, she looks down at her blade, which is covered in white: ] This is its transformed state. Normally, it looks like a standard katana. I was intending on training with it but decided against it.
[ And as she says that, she wills the zanpakuto to go back to its original state. ]
wait so your ship is alive kinda if it talks to you it must have some kind of consciousness right
trust me not pulling off surprise attacks is the least of my worries though technically if i just need to travel somewhere i can get away with not singing so if i only start singing right when i attack it'd probably work
so were you and your friends detectives or masked vigilantes?
[ Superheroes. He means superheroes and is trying to avoid that specific verbiage. The multiverse has been ... interesting to say the least, and Keith isn't convinced anyone here truly has a mundane life. Or well. Maybe some do. But it doesn't seem proportional. ]
and honestly i'm not sure i'd call being in a war and trying to survive in deep space "cool"
[ His eyes are on Rukia's sword as it reverts back to a more standard looking katana. He has questions about this, of course, but first he'll answer hers. ]
This knife will transform into a sword for those with Galran heritage. The Galra typically design weapons and technology to activate only when interfacing with a member of the species.
[ All of which gets said rather casually. He has nothing to hide on that front, even if he can already anticipate the follow up question. ]
What's the significance of your sword's transformation?
yeah. they're alive in a way? they have a personality and a will. they can lend your their strength in battle. the stronger your bond is to the lion, the more potential you can unlock together. but it's hard to explain. they don't need to do anything like eat or sleep, but they're part of the conscious universe nonetheless
[ Maybe even something a little beyond that if what Shiro had said about existing inside the Black Lion's consciousness is true. The lions are seemingly a bottomless well of mysteries. ]
but i guess that makes sense. how do you manage if you come down with a cold or something affects your hearing and you can't sing in tune?
[ "While we try to figure it out." At least the stubbornness is one thing about this Allura that's exactly as expected. It's almost reassuring, but misses the mark by a hair and ends up being bittersweet instead. ]
i'm keith. i'm from this place on earth called texas. no fancy titles guess it's nice to meet you
