Personality

What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (100-300 words)
While Keith was still an infant, his Galra mother left the family in order to keep Earth protected from a hostile alien race. However, his father tells him nothing about her and thus Keith grows up believing she abandoned him before he could even walk or talk. This lingering question of his self-worth is only made worse when his dad dies because he chose to go back into a burning building to save people's lives. Though Keith says his father was a "real hero" the early loss of both parental figures left him all alone in the world and believing that he can only ever rely on himself. He grows up in a group home, troubled and combative, and was eventually deemed a "disciplinary case" that isn't worth the time of day.

As a result, Keith grew up internalizing negative ideas about his worth and despite his attempts to prove people wrong about him, often falls into self defeating patterns of self sabotage because he believes nobody will give him a chance anyway. At least in his mind, if his parents could leave him, anyone can. Therefore, out of an unconscious fear of further loss of loved ones and abandonment, Keith tends to stick to himself and pushes others away before they can get too close.

What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (100-300 words)
More than anything else, Keith is most strongly defined by his desire to find his place in the cosmos. Following the death of his dad, and with no other familial connections, Keith had basically nothing to anchor him to a sense of community or a sense of belonging. For most of his life, he’s been the perpetual outsider, feeling as though nothing was right for him. Being chosen by the Red Lion which inexorably ties his destiny to that of the paladins of Voltron and their mission to end the Galra Empire, Keith finds something that he’d been missing: a purpose and important bonds with the other paladins.

In his heart of hearts, he wants to have connections to other people and wants to carve out a place in the universe that's his. As also shown by his amazement about everyone in the universe being made of "the same space dust." as strong as his drive to keep himself protected may be, he also has a strong desire to be a part of the broader cosmic universe. He wants to understand people, he wants to have meaningful bonds with the people around him. This may be hampered a bit by the fact that Keith struggles with bouts of social awkwardness and a kneejerk tendency to wall people out when he's vulnerable, but it very genuinely makes him happy when he feels he's established positive relationships with others.

How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words)
While I intend to keep Keith similar to his canon self due to the ~vibes~, one core aspect of his personality that will change is his knee-jerk recalcitrance and distrustful attitude. Much of Keiht’s more temperamental nature is a byproduct of being raised as a ward of the state in a group home that had no real care or concern for his well-being. As Keith will no longer remember most of his upbringing, he will generally be far less quick to become suspicious and combative when dealing with frustrating people or situations. What will, however, remain the same is Keith’s more reckless and impulsive decision-making, as he is a person who likes adventure and pushing boundaries in order to get to the truth… and also just because he enjoys thrill-seeking.

Another core aspect of Keith’s personality that will be affected by his memory loss is that he will no longer feel that he is an outsider quite as intensely. As he doesn’t have a history of being repeatedly told that he does not belong with the Garrison, has the wrong attitude, etc. In the context of Well, I expect this core element will be shifted to a more internal focus rather than a community-focused one as he no longer has any context for his half-Galra biology. Or for the patchwork state of his memories.

Minor Memory of a Desert Shack 1 point.
Keith will remember this house existing in the desert, and some vague recollections of the interior. For reference, the cabin is his dad’s home in Arizona, but he will have zero recollection of this cabin’s significance, just that exists somewhere in a desert.

Keiht’s conspiracy board. He will remember that for a long period of time, he was obsessed with finding something. Keith has no idea what that something is, except that it must have been very important.

Keith will remember being challenged by this fearsome creature who called himself the bravest of the Arusian warriors.

Nunvil. Some possibly alien beverage that apparently can be used as a hair tonic and consumed… but don’t do it, because it tastes like hot dog water and feet.

Major Memory: 2 points.
Keith will remember going on a mission with someone that involved flying two robot lions out to enormous planet-eating creatures called a weblum in order to harvest some sort of secretion from its glands. The mission involved going on a magic school bus style journey through the weblum’s digestive tract and fighting off its immune response to invaders. It was very great.

Relationship Core: 2 points.
Keith will remember that at some point, there was a guy who took him in when Keith was in a bad place. Their relationship was a positive one and he became an older brother, but it was also kinda stressful?? This bro needed rescuing a lot for some reason…. and may have disappeared.
