Character Name: Keith

Age: 18

Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender

Canon point: End of Season 1

History:Wiki

Personality:

independent→ Keith was functionally orphaned from a young age and with no family members to take him in, he grew up believing that he only has himself to rely on. Whenever he can, he tries to handle everything on his own without leaning on anyone else and this is a central point of conflict between him and his friends when they have to work together. He gets progressively better about learning to lean on others for support, but he can get quite bull headed and stubborn about doing things his way. Relying on his strong intuition and street smarts, Keith is very resilient and is usually able to get himself out of the trouble he lands himself in due to his impulsive decisions.

pragmatic → But when Keith is actually committed to strategizing, he's fairly practical and logically minded. He's able to come up with strategies from point A to Z, with clarity and decisiveness beyond his years. Notably, he's also a pinch utilitarian and tries to consider what's in the best interest of the greatest number of people, even if the position makes him unpopular. When Allura is captured by the Galra, Keith is the only paladin to point out that staging a rescue is a risky decision based on high running emotions and that they need to consider the need to preserve resources. Quick thinking, adaptable, resourceful and willing to make difficult calls, there’s a reason that Keith eventually becomes the leader of Voltron.

temperamental → Following the death of his dad, Keith was sent to live in a group home where he predictably grew to be more troubled. As seen during a flashback episode, the adults in Keith's life never gave him the time of day, believing he was a delinquent and a waste of time. This causes him to internalize harmful self-defeating beliefs that reinforce bad behavior. If nobody will give him a chance, then what's the point in trying? Furthermore, if his mother could leave him before he could walk and talk, then why would anyone else be there for him? These sorts of beliefs have caused him to become something of a loner who doesn’t really know how best to engage with people around him. He’s a little socially awkward and can easily become frustrated when he runs into walls trying to get his point across. While Keith doesn’t usually intentionally try to be rude or dismissive, he’s often misconstrued due to being blunt and… well temperamental.. Deep down, however, he does genuinely want to establish strong connections with other people, but has a difficult time letting people get in close.

loyal→ But when someone manages to become important to Keith, there is virtually nothing that can dissuade him from doing his utmost to protect them. For example, there's a point in which he believes Shiro is trying to kill him and even gets part of his face burned off during their fight. Despite this, however, Keith makes every attempt to save Shiro and even chooses to fall to a certain death with Shiro rather than let go and save himself. When Keith cares he cares to a tunnel visioned degree, and his often self-sacrificial nature makes it so that he’ll do whatever it takes to ensure those he cares about are safe from harm. As someone whose life was turned around with the words, “I’ll never give up on you and more importantly you shouldn't give up on yourself,” Keith is determined to live up to the faith people put in him and returns that faith unabashedly.

strong sense of justice → Though Keith often acts unconventionally (attempting to take Lubos hostage on Olkarion as one example), his actions are guided by a fairly strong sense of right and wrong. He believes he has an obligation to fight the war against the Galra to liberate the universe at eighteen years old, and often puts himself in incredible danger to do his part. He throws himself into a 1v1 fight with Zarkon to try and dismantle the empire as quickly as possible, despite the very real risk of death. Selfless and brave beyond his years, Keith is someone who is ultimately motivated to do right by the world and to the people around him.

Suitability:

As discussed in the personality section, Keith is someone who is highly motivated to do what’s right. He will choose to work with ADI to combat the greater threat to the world he is in, as well as assist as he deems it necessary to gather information to return to his own universe.

Powers/Abilities:

1. Half Galra→ Keith is half Galra and has a few quirks relating to his hybrid biology. He has somewhat buffed physical strength and endurance compared to what you’d expect from someone of his stature and physique. For example, he can punch hard enough to knock people off their feet,, but couldn’t punch down a wall. In times of extreme duress, his appearance becomes more subtly Galran (slit pupils, slight fangs). Of note, this is not something Keith consciously chooses to do or is even aware of doing. It happens once in the series at a much later canon point for a few frames, then becomes a completely dropped plot point so I'm ??? about whether this would properly qualify as a power, especially since Keith would not choose to activate this so to speak.

2. Summoning the Red Lion → Exactly what it sounds like. Keith has a psychic/spiritual connection to the Red Lion and it will come to him when needed. Nerfed for this game.

3. Summoning red bayard → Keith can make his bayard materialize in his hands from a distance.. This is a property native to the bayard itself rather than any ability Keith has. See inventory for elaboration on what a bayard is.

4. Piloting Skills → Keith is a trained fighter pilot and was considered the best cadet of his year before getting dismissed for disciplinary issues.

5. Combat Skills → Keith is very skilled at both hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship.

Entity Affinity:

1. The Desolation. As someone whose formative years were defined by death and loss, Keith would be susceptible to the Desolation. Keith has anxieties rooted in the death of his dad and the subsequent tailspin upheaval of his life. Fire, in particular, is poignant as his dad was a firefighter who perished while rescuing others from a burning building. Additionally, he has seen the horrific planetary scale destruction that the Galra are able to wreak upon billions of innocents at a time and knows that failing as a paladin will lead to the literal desolation of the universe left behind.

2. The Lonely. Keith would also be fairly susceptible to this entity as he very earnestly has the desire to connect to the universe around him. However, due to the losses in his life, he also has abandonment issues that lead him to shove people out to his own detriment. His time with Team Voltron is the first time in his life that he’s had a circle of found family again, which has also heightened his awareness of just how unhappy he was after Shiro allegedly died during the Kerberos mission. As such, he’s become keenly aware that he wasn’t just alone, but was also lonely, and has repressed fears of losing the bonds he’s forged since.

3. The Eye. At Keith’s current canon point, he is not aware of his Galra heritage, however, he is starting to suspect that there is something wrong with him. He’s previously been able to interface with Galran technology (which is species-locked to keep non-Galra from being able to use it) and is deeply troubled by the implications. It’s led him to start feeling like he has to hide parts of himself in order to keep his circle of friends and keep what he’s built up. At the same time, Keith is driven to pursue his truth to whatever end because he wants to shake this fear.

Inventory:

1. Red Paladin Armor → Armor that also doubles as a space suit that comes with an attached jet pack. There’s a bunch of advanced techn built into the armor such as a bioscanner,, but for this game I’m going to say the tech isn’t working.

2. Red bayard → An Altean magical weapon that can take on different forms depending on the situational needs of the user. Keith’s bayard defaults to turning into a sword, but he can also make it turn into a portable laser cannon among others. For this game, I would like to put a curse on his bayard and would appreciate any suggestions the mods have for this!

3. Blade of Marmora knife → A Galran knife that can turn into a sword when activated. At his canon point, Keith hasn’t figured out he can do that. Of note, only a person with Galran blood can unlock that ability.
